Day by day
Your itinerary
Day 1Your adventure begins with pickup from the airport or hotel, followed by a fascinating walking tour through the historical center of Iquitos. You will explore architectural gems from the Rubber Boom era, such as the iconic Iron House (Casa de Fierro, designed by Gustave Eiffel), the Palace Hotel, Casa Cohen, and Casa Fitzcarraldo. From our private pier, we will set sail along the Itaya and Amazon rivers, admiring the impressive bridge over the Nanay River—the largest in Peru. Our first special stop: Fundo Pedrito, where you will meet the paiche (Arapaima gigas), the largest freshwater fish in the world, which can reach 3 meters in length and weigh up to 200 kg! You will also observe caimans and the majestic Victoria Regia, the largest aquatic plant on the planet with leaves that can support up to 40 kg. We continue on to Cumaceba Amazon Lodge. After settling in and having lunch, we take a jungle hike to discover the local flora and fauna, with the chance to feed free-roaming squirrel monkeys. After dinner, an evening canoe excursion on Shansho Lake to search for caimans, followed by Amazonian myths and stories around the fire. Overnight at Cumaceba Amazon Lodge.+
Day 2DAY 2: Piranha Fishing & Magical Dolphins+
Day 3Wake up to an Amazonian sunrise with an early morning bird-watching walk. After breakfast, time for adventure! Enjoy recreational fishing for piranhas and other species using traditional techniques. In the afternoon, set out in search of pink and gray river dolphins—a unique experience that few people in the world have the privilege to enjoy. Weather permitting, you will witness a breathtaking Amazonian sunset. After dinner, a night walk to listen to the tropical rainforest symphony and observe amphibians, tarantulas, and nocturnal insects—an experience that will awaken all your senses. Overnight at the Ecolodge.+
Day 4DAY 3: Monkey Island & Yagua Community+
Day 5Early morning canoe excursion on Shansho Lake to observe the Hoatzin (or Shansho), the most colorful "prehistoric bird" in the Amazon. Breakfast. We then sail to the private "Monkey Island" project, a sanctuary preserving over 5 endangered primate species: the howler monkey with its impressive roar, the woolly monkey, the titi monkey, the spider monkey, and the squirrel monkey. Enjoy a guided walk through the project's rainforest. Return to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, a cultural visit to the native Yagua community, where you will learn about their traditional attire, ancestral dances, dialect, and handcrafted arts. Special moment: a demonstration on using the blowgun (a traditional hunting weapon) with a chance to practice your aim! After dinner, a night canoe excursion along the Amazon River listening to the sounds of the night. Overnight at Cumaceba Amazon Lodge.+
Day 6DAY 4: Magical Butterflies & Farewell+
Day 7Breakfast. Boat excursion to visit the butterfly farm, where a specialist will guide you through the fascinating life cycle of these insects, including the legendary Blue Morpho—considered one of the most beautiful butterflies in the world. Return to the Ecolodge for a farewell lunch. At the designated time, return to Iquitos. Transfer to the airport in a private vehicle or to your hotel in a picturesque motokar (auto-rickshaw), bringing home a suitcase filled with Amazonian memories.+
