Your itinerary

Day 1Otuzco Necropolis

Arrival in Cajamarca. A company transfer representative, duly identified, will be waiting for you holding a sign with the passengers' names. Following introductions, they will provide the details of your service before boarding the vehicle for transfer to your chosen hotel, where assistance will be provided for your check-in. (15:30 h) Excursion to the Otuzco Necropolis, located 8 km from Cajamarca. This archaeological complex belonged to a pre-Inca population prior to the Caxamarca culture, with probable Wari influence. It features hundreds of individual galleries and niches resembling windows carved into volcanic rock, reaching depths of 8 to 10 meters. Their entrances are rectangular and square-cut, measuring 50 to 60 cm in height, and originally had stone gravestones with symbolic figures in relief. We will continue the tour with a visit to the Hydrangea Garden, the Tres Molinos Estate, and the Los Alpes Farm, where we can taste exquisite dairy products. Return to the hotel. Overnight stay.

Day 2Namora / San Nicolás Lagoon / Ex-Hacienda La Collpa

Breakfast at the hotel. (09:30 am) The tour begins with passenger pick-up from your hotel, followed by a visit to the Walkway of the Incas (Alameda de los Incas), featuring life-sized statues of our ancestors. En route to Namora, we will make a stop to enjoy the striking stone landscape of the rocky area known as Los Sapitos. Next, a visit to the San Nicolás Lagoon, spanning 2 km in length by 1.7 km in width, with a depth of 3.5 m and an altitude between 2,817 and 2,970 m a.s.l. Fed by seepage and rainfall, its water volume varies depending on the time of year. Reed beds grow within it, forming an ecosystem for various bird species. Pejerrey breeding also takes place here, and you can enjoy a boat ride or traditional reed craft excursion for an unforgettable experience. Finally, in Namora, we will visit the famous workshops of export-quality classical guitars, crafted in modest homes by expert artisans with great detail and dedication. Return to the city. (15:30 h) Departure for the Ex-Hacienda La Collpa, located 11 km from the city of Cajamarca (approximately 30 minutes away). La Collpa was an estate dedicated exclusively to cattle breeding for milk and dairy production. Here we can visit the former hacienda, featuring a beautiful chapel in honor of the Virgin of Carmen—the tallest mud-brick structure in all of Latin America. We will tour the artisanal milking workshops and walk around its artificial lake, adorned with small bridges and gardens home to ducks and swans. A highlight is watching the cows being called by name, as they head to their corresponding stalls in the barn upon hearing their names. Afterwards, time will be provided to taste and purchase dairy products offered in the shops of this famous former estate. Return to the city. Overnight stay.

Day 3Cumbe Mayo Archaeological Complex

Breakfast at the hotel. (09:30 am) Visit to the Cumbe Mayo Archaeological Complex, located on the slopes of Mount Cumbe. The structures here are believed to have been built between 800 and 1200 AD by the Cajamarca culture, though they display marked Chavín influence. We will explore The Sanctuary (a grotto modeled at the base of a cliff shaped like a human head), The Caves (petroglyphs with anthropomorphic designs that remain undeciphered to this day), and the Aqueduct (an admirable example of pre-Hispanic hydraulic engineering carved out of volcanic lava, designed to transfer water from the Pacific side of the watershed to the Atlantic side). Cumbe Mayo also covers a vast area of massive rock cliffs known as Los Frailones. Along the route, we can view the Bellavista Viewpoint, the Layzón Archaeological Center, the Forest Park, and more. Return. Overnight stay.

Day 4Granja Porcón + Huambocancha Stonecutters

Breakfast at the hotel. (09:30 am) Visit to the Atahualpa Jerusalén Agricultural Cooperative, better known as Granja Porcón. Covering 12,800 hectares, it hosts an impressive reforestation project primarily using various pine species, among which edible mushrooms grow. The cooperative sustainably manages its forests containing over 12 million trees, representing one of the few agricultural cooperatives to fully benefit from the Agrarian Reform. It is located 30 km north of Cajamarca. Our tour includes traditional weaving workshops, the carpentry workshop, and its dairy shop where we can purchase delicious local products such as cheese, butter, yogurt, and manjar blanco (caramel spread). Visit to the mini-zoo and the Deer and Vicuña Park. Return to the city. On the way back, we will visit the stonecutters of Huambocancha. Overnight stay.
